NHS Patients

You are entitled to a free NHS Sight Test if you fall into one of the following categories:

  • You are under 16 years of age
  • You are 16, 17 or 18 in full time education
  • You are 60 years old or over

If you or your partner receives:

  • Income Support
  • Pension credit guarantee credit
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Tax Credit and are named on a valid NHS Tax Credit Exemption Certificate

Other NHS Patients’ eligibility criteria include:

  • If you are named on a HC2 exemption certificate
  • You are registered blind or partially sighted with the Local Authority
  • You suffer from diabetes or glaucoma
  • You are considered to be at risk of glaucoma by an ophthalmologist
  • You are over 40 years old and have/had a parent, brother or sister with glaucoma
  • You have been prescribed complex lenses under the NHS optical voucher scheme

Patients entitled to a full NHS Optical Voucher include:

  • You are under 16 years of age
  • You are 16, 17 or 18 in full time education

If you or your partner receives:

  • Income Support
  • Pension credit guarantee credit
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Tax Credit and are named on a valid NHS Tax Credit Exemption Certificate
  • If you are named on a HC2 exemption certificate
