Slit Lamp

This is a large microscope which magnifies the front surface of your eye. It examines the lids and lashes looking for any problems such as styes and conjunctivitis. It examines the clear layer on the front of your eye called the cornea which helps bend the light into your eye. The coloured part of your eye is called the iris and the white part the sclera. The lens in your eye allows you to focus on objects. Abnormalities of all the parts of the eye can be picked up with regular check-ups.
